History of the 1954-1962 Nash Metropolitan:
Nash’s charismatic leader, George Mason, was famous for many things, not the least of which was his love of the outdoors, good food and large cigars. But as CEO of the most promising “independent” auto company in the post war, pre-Korean war years, he was also known as the man who loved small cars, which ultimately saved Nash and later, American Motors. Not cheap nasty economy cars, but “compacts,” and in the case of the Metropolitan, “sub-compacts” before the words were even coined. The car was envisioned to be a “personal use” car for shopping, commuting, etc., and was not intended to be a prime vehicle for households. It was available as a two-seat convertible or two-seat hardtop, and came equipped with a map light, electric windshield wipers and “Continental” spare tire. The Metropolitan was intentionally marketed to women of the day, the first car to have that distinction. These cars will stop car show participants in their tracks, and the look of surprise and delight on people’s faces is generally something enjoyable to see.

About this car:
This 1954 manufactured in the Metropolitan’s first year has been upgraded with the larger more desirable Series 2 1500cc engine. The original vacuum tube AM radio even works and is loud enough to still listen to. A brand new ignition/headlamp switch with two keys has been installed. New wheel cylinders have been installed on all four wheels and the brakes operate strong. New rear wheel oil seals and hub gaskets have been installed as well as four brand new Firestone 5.20-13 tires from Coker with 2 inch whitewalls. This car runs well and would be a great car for fun or show; this is the type of car that draws in every type of person.

All of the glass in good shape, and the paint is decent shape with some small cracks here and there. The engine starts right up every time and does not smoke. The transmission shifts well and the synchros appear to be in good shape. This is a solid driver-quality car that you can drive while slowly cleaning up things here and there.
